• This Saturday is held in Marseille the first edition of Rooftop Day, in order to democratize access to the roofs of the city.

  • Behind this event, the organizers want to feed a reflection on the place of the roofs in the second city of France

They are the delight of Instagram fanatics, with their breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and breathtaking sunsets.

For a few years now in Marseille, rooftops have been springing up like hot cakes, whose particularly mild climate invites you to relax on the heights of the Marseille city.

But these little gems are often reserved for an elite, the well-informed or well-off “happy few” who can afford this little pleasure for an evening.

A pleasure that the collective Toits and us intend to democratize by organizing this Saturday the very first edition of the "Rooftop Day" in Marseille.

“The idea is to go beyond the trendy rooftop which is reserved only for some, with a DJ set, smiles Manon Cervella, project manager within Synergie Family, one of the structures involved in this project.

We wanted the rooftops to become accessible to everyone, and for the people of Marseille to reclaim the rooftops.

The organizers were therefore inspired by an initiative in force for seven years in Rotterdam, the “Rooftop Day”, to transpose it to Marseille.

“Mix the audience”

“The idea is to offer a festive day and meetings on a lot of rooftops, continues Manon Cervella.

Rooftops aren't just for young people.

We would like to try to mix the public.

On the roof of the sports Recyclerie will be organized a fair!

Also on the program: a breakfast prepared only with products from a farmer from the Sainte-Marthe district at l'Epopée, in the northern districts of Marseille or even a brunch on the roof of the Regional Contemporary Art Fund ( Frac).

“Some roofs remain unknown, like that of Coco Velten, notes Manon Cervella.

Personally, I didn't even know it existed, although access is completely free and the view of the sea and Saint-Charles station is magnificent!

Through this initiative, the collective also intends to develop a real discourse on rooftop squares in a city like Marseille.

“In some countries around the Mediterranean, such as Spain or Italy, roofs are used a lot, whether for drying clothes or meeting up.

We are in a city that lacks space, so rooftops can be a meeting place.

We are going to launch workshops from the start of the school year to feed a whole reflection, with, for example, a workshop with firefighters to address the issue of rooftop safety.
