• Leisure The most spectacular water park in Europe: 5,700 m2, 15 pools...

  • Getaway Groix, the island of happiness in Brittany where you will want to spend your holidays

Yannick points his spotlight into the thickness of the night.

He thus makes his way to lead the guest to his room.

There are no streetlights or lights to light the way.

And the vehicle also has no headlights.

With skill, as if he had been doing it all his life, Yannick, one of the waiters at the Chateau Brindos hotel, in the French town of Anglet, drives a small electric boat.

It is the only way to take clients to one of the 10 floating rooms that this five-star hotel has on the Brindos pond.

The small

castle of Brindos,

a few minutes from the beaches of Anglet, is the headquarters of this hotel that the Millésime company bought from the former rugby player of the French team Serge Blanco.

After its purchase, the group's designer, Marie Christine Lecoen, redesigned the interior spaces combining

original furniture

from the

chateau,

built in the 1930s, with modern elements, seeking a balance between the classic and the modern.

The establishment on the mainland has

29 rooms,

five of them suites.

They are all uniquely decorated and have views of the lake.

But the jewel in the crown, and something that the hotel had not had until now, are the

10 floating cabins

that rest on the small lake in front of the hotel.

Built on solid ground, they are anchored to a structure within the lake that allows the cabin not to move.

Behind the cabin, another structure allows water from the cabins to be recycled.

SINGLE ACCESS

The only way to access this

little haven of peace

is through one of the five electric boats that leave from the tiny port in front of the hotel bar.

The boats, piloted by a waiter from the hotel, operate

24 hours a day.

A call to reception is enough for the boat to start up and appear in a matter of a couple of minutes at the door of the cabin.

A large bed, double shower, a

small terrace

with two hammocks and a Nordic bathroom are some of the features of these floating cabins that share living space with

two otters, cormorants and dragonflies.

.

All rooms have wifi and have a television, hidden behind a curtain.

"Initially there wasn't, but some clients asked us for it," says Olivier Richard, the hotel's manager.

Castle hall.

The tranquility of the lake, where you can hardly hear the frogs croaking, invites you to watch the sunset or have breakfast as the sun rises.

No problem,

room service

also uses the boat to carry everything you need in a basket to stay "stuck" in this little aquatic paradise.

It is possible to spend the whole day in the cabin without having to

travel

to the mainland.

ZARA, ONE OF ITS 'CUSTOMERS'

Both guests in the cabins and those in the rooms on land can make use of all the facilities: sports room,

heated outdoor pool

and spa with products of plant origin, with two treatment rooms planted in the lake.

For the night, or after eating, the hotel has several spaces.

A bar with a fireplace where you can have a cocktail, and a British-inspired room where you feel like having a typical liquor from the area.

The British-inspired bar

In the dining room they pay special attention to local food, with dishes such as lamb,

octopus or pâté.

For an afternoon snack, a chocolate, one of the local specialties or a

gâteau basque

, a traditional sweet from the area filled with cream or red berries.

The landscape also offers perfect views for lovers of sunrises and sunsets.

One of the last clients to verify this has been the multinational Inditex.

The company directed by

Marta Ortega

has carried out part of its latest summer fashion collection campaign on the small dock and the castle cabins.

For those who prefer

to have a drink outdoors,

there is a pontoon where you can have a drink or snack while contemplating the calm waters of the lake, only altered by the boat that Yannick drives.
