The "Osenji no Ki" was held to announce the beginning of the Gion Festival in Kyoto, and the child of Naginata-hoko, who was at the forefront of the Yamahoko cruise, prayed for the safety of the festival.

The "Osen degree Ceremony" is an event to pray for the safety of the Gion Festival by children riding the leading naginata-hoko on the Yamahoko cruise, and is held every year on July 1st at Yasaka Shrine in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto.

Due to the influence of the new corona, the Yamahoko cruise was canceled last year, and the children were absent. It was held with the participation of street children.

On the 1st, Zenta Okamoto, a fifth grader who is a child of this year, visited the shrine with two boys who act as assistants called Kamuro.

Okamoto-kun and his friends, dressed in traditional hakama and white-painted make-up, went to the "Osen-no-Gi" after receiving a hare.

In the "Osenji no Ki", it is said that if you go around the main shrine three times, you will have worshiped 1000 times, and Okamoto and his colleagues walked slowly and prayed for the safety of the Gion Festival.

Mr. Okamoto said, "It was hot today, but I was able to enjoy the ceremony of the thousand degrees in my own way."

The "pre-festival" will be held on the 17th of this month, and the "post-festival" will be held on the 24th.
