Inflation does not let up, it is out of control, and the Spanish are suffocated.

The economy is not growing enough and the government continues patching up the system with short-term measures that are only bread for today and hunger for tomorrow, as well as being costly for the public coffers.

This Wednesday the worst of the macroeconomic data of the last 37 years was known: the

Consumer Price Index

(

CPI

) is going to exceed the 10% barrier in June (10.2% in interannual rate) and, what is more serious,

inflation

underlying

-which excludes the prices of energy and fresh food- is going to register its highest level in the last 29 years (5.5%).

The situation threatens the future of our economy

.

Companies are losing competitiveness as a result of the weakness suffered by the country, which is at the bottom of Europe in the world ranking, and the purchasing power of families decreases, with wages that fell by almost 5% in the last year and with more than a million households drowned by their mortgages and credits.

This summer will be the most expensive in history, with

tourism as the only hope for our economy

after two years of restrictions due to the covid pandemic.

But the prices of transport, hotels, restaurants and leisure have shot up 40%, which will have a negative impact on the inflation figure for September.

Tourism employment will, however, be one of the great beneficiaries, after already registering an increase of 23% in May and reaching a record of 2.6 million Social Security affiliates.

After the holidays, it will be time to face a black autumn

, with a "more intense and persistent" inflationary episode, as the Bank of Spain has already warned, and with a smaller rebound in the economy than expected at the beginning of this year -4.1% compared to the 5.4% initially estimated- .

The Government of Pedro Sánchez is not being able to curb the effects of the escalating inflation that began almost a year ago and continues unstoppable.

In this context,

Vice President Calviño has been left alone on the board

.

It no longer convinces either the unions or the employers' association, nor its parliamentary partners.

Instead of acknowledging the terrible figures published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) on the weakened situation of the Spanish economy, the minister has questioned the rigor of this body in such relevant data as the CPI or GDP, in an attempt to save the propaganda story at the cost of statistical reality.

Her pressure has ended up causing the resignation of its president.

Sánchez boasted this Wednesday of the "suitability" of the measures taken by the Government to control inflation, and boasted of having prevented the CPI from being four points higher than the 10.2% announced by the INE.

Messages that seek to disguise

the failure of an erratic policy

, as Feijóo defined it.

It is worth remembering the dark years, between 2008 and 2014, when Spain entered a recession due to the poor management that Zapatero made of the crisis and that Rajoy inherited, whose economic team managed to restore balance to the country at the cost of enormous sacrifice.

He urges the government to adjust public accounts as soon as possible, because later the pain will be worse.
