It has been 63 years since the accident in which an American military fighter crashed in an elementary school in Okinawa, which was under the control of the United States, killing 18 children and others.


A memorial rally was held at the elementary school in Uruma City, which was the site of the event.

On June 30, 1959, when Okinawa was under American rule, a fighter plane that took off from the U.S. military Kadena Air Base crashed at Miyamori Elementary School in Uruma City, killing a total of 18 people, including 11 children. , More than 200 people were injured.



It has been 63 years since the accident on the 30th, and at Miyamori Elementary School, which was the site of the accident, a memorial rally was held with a total of 140 5th and 6th grade children participating.

At the rally, all of them silently prayed, and then the children of the representatives handed flowers to the monument with the names of the victims and rang the "bell of peace" built in the courtyard after the accident.



Even during the rally, we were able to see US military aircraft flying over the area around the elementary school.



Yuki Ito, a sixth grader who participated, said, "I hope that this kind of thing will never happen again. I felt that peace was very important."



After that, the bereaved families and current students gathered at the elementary school to mourn the victims by burning incense in front of the memorial monument.
