Recently, a rare species, the fat salamander, was discovered in Jiulongfeng Nature Reserve, Huangshan District, Huangshan City.

According to reports, the fat salamander is an indicator species with very good water quality and is very rare.

  Jiulongfeng Nature Reserve was established in April 2001 with the approval of the Anhui Provincial Government. It is a forest ecological type nature reserve with a forest coverage rate of 96.1%.

The territory is rich in species resources, with more than 1,000 species of plants such as southern yew and fragrant fruit tree, as well as dozens of national key protected animals such as black muntjac and white-necked long-tailed pheasant. It is known as the "East China Species Gene Bank".
