Have you ever heard of "If you don't do club activities, it will affect your private statement"

when you were in junior high school?

This is a private statement of my child that is of concern to the parents of the examinees.

However, in reality, few people have a clear idea of how much club activities will affect them.

When I interviewed the whole country, I found that there are big differences in handling depending on the region.

What is a private statement in the first place?

I can immediately remember the "report card" handed to me at the end of the semester, but I have never seen the "internal report".

I think there are many people like that.

According to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, "internal report" is commonly known as "investigation report".

It is created as a material for selecting high school enrollees, and is intended to positively evaluate individuality and strengths other than academic ability, in addition to the evaluation of the usual learning situation.

The specific items to be described are not decided uniformly by the national government, but are decided by the board of education of each prefecture.

"Evaluate the description of club activities" in 33 prefectures

Last summer, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology was investigating how many areas would evaluate the description of club activities in the entrance examination.

This survey was conducted by prefectural boards of education nationwide, and asked about the evaluation method when club activities are mentioned in the internal report in the general entrance examination of public high schools.

As a result,

▽ "use as materials for comprehensive judgment" was given to 31 prefectures, and

▽ "additional points if there are outstanding results" were given to 2 prefectures, Saitama and Saga prefectures.

It was found that club activities may be evaluated in at least 33 prefectures.

In addition, 14 prefectures answered "Other".

(* Answers by prefecture are summarized at the end of the article.)

We interviewed the board of education of the local government based on the survey results to find out what exactly it means.

In areas that are "comprehensive judgment materials"

[Fukuoka Prefecture]

After deciding the top 60% of successful applicants based on the results of the academic ability test and the evaluation of the internal report, the remaining 40% of the pass / fail judgments will be evaluated including the description of the internal report including club activities. about it.

[Aichi Prefecture]

When deciding who will pass the entrance examination, it is stated that "comprehensive judgment" will be made based on the description of the internal report including club activities, the results of the academic ability test, and the interview. increase.

The content of "comprehensive judgment" seems to have various forms depending on the local government.

In areas that "add outstanding grades"

[Saitama Prefecture] In

some schools, the selection criteria set for each school include the results of participation in national and prefectural competitions and the experience of serving as a director as a guideline for evaluation.

For activities other than club activities, the experience of serving as a student council president or class president, and some schools give points if they are qualified for the English test, so what kind of efforts are evaluated can be found for each school on the prefecture's website. It is announced.

[Saga Prefecture]

Regarding club activities, points will be added if excellent results are achieved or outstanding achievements are made in competitions held in prefectures and cities, and points are assigned to each school.

Tokyo is "not subject to evaluation"

I also asked the local governments who answered "Other".

[Tokyo]

In the general entrance examination, club activities were not included in the evaluation because the pass / fail judgment is made only by the results of the academic ability test and the evaluation of the internal report.

[Kanagawa Prefecture]

The description of club activities is only used as a reference in interviews.

[Chiba Prefecture] [Gunma Prefecture]

Whether or not club activities are subject to evaluation depends on the school.

Entrance examination reform progresses in Hiroshima Prefecture

On the other hand, in Hiroshima Prefecture, which is already in the process of reforming entrance exams, we are also reviewing the evaluation of club activities.

In last summer's survey, they answered that they would use it as a comprehensive judgment material, but from the high school entrance examination that will be held this year, they stopped writing the results of club activities on the internal report, and instead the students I am planning to introduce an interview where I can freely appeal my strengths.

Announcement of entrance examination evaluation criteria and points for club activities

In the recommendations released this month by the National Council of Experts, students and parents said that the evaluation criteria and points for club activities were not decided in the implementation guidelines and were left to the discretion of each high school and may not be announced. It has been pointed out that it is not clear for the public how it will be evaluated in the general entrance examination.

Based on such issues, it is necessary to clearly indicate the viewpoint of evaluation of club activities and points to be assigned on the entrance examination implementation guidelines and the homepage of each high school.

In addition, when describing club activities in the internal report, it is desirable to make a multifaceted evaluation by describing not only the activity history and tournament results, but also the individuality and motivation of the students.

The proposal states that it is necessary to consider how to evaluate club activities in high school entrance exams in order to gradually shift club activities on public junior high school holidays to the community from next year onward. It will be interesting to see if it will change in the future.
