The Departmental Federation of Fisheries in Vaucluse warns of the presence of levels of mercury, PCBs (Polychlorobiphenyls) and dioxins well above European thresholds on catfish, pike-perch, barbel, chub and eels from the Rhône, La Provence reports on Friday.

Due to discharges from many factories until the 1980s, the waters of the Rhône were indeed polluted.

From 2007 to 2018, the fishing, consumption and marketing of Rhône fish had also been prohibited.

But in 2018, analyzes by ANSES (National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety) finally led to the lifting of the ban in the department, in 2019. A ban still in place courses in the Bouches-du-Rhône.

No anomaly detected

The Fishing Federation has asked the authorities to return this measure to Vaucluse.

Questioned by our colleagues, Yves Zellmeyer, director of the Departmental Directorate for the Protection of the Populations of Vaucluse (DDPP), wants to be reassuring.

He considers that these analyzes do not call into question the authorization because the situation would not have worsened.

Quality controls would also be carried out regularly, without detecting any anomaly.
