• Always fans of Scrooge, Hugo Mathias and Adrien Bouquier aim to transpose his adventures to the cinema.

  • The concept ?

A film made in live action where the ducks will be replaced by humans.

  • The two directors are using crowdfunding to be able to complete their ambitious project.

Young or old, everyone knows the stories of Scrooge.

Some have even devoured his magazine, like Hugo Mathias who, from his earliest childhood, nurtured a real passion for the richest (and stingiest) duck in the world.

Today, this 26-year-old Lyonnais plans to devote a film to him in collaboration with his friend Adrien Bouquier.

Their short film, halfway between tribute and adaptation, will be inspired by one of the stories of Keno Don Rosa, comic book author and Balthazar Picsou specialist.

The two directors have been working on the project for four years, without losing sight of the initial objective: to bring Scrooge to life.

In every sense of the term.

Donaldville characters will be transposed into humans.

“We made this decision for two reasons.

Already, for a question of rights, we could not use the characters.

And then, it was complicated to play ducks, laughs Hugo.

Then, we wanted to tell something that is unique to us and not just make a copy of the comic strip.

We also didn't want to make something like

La bande à Picsou

, for example.

The idea was really to show how we perceive Scrooge.

It was to put our stamp on the film.

A team of professionals

To make their project credible, Hugo and Adrien have surrounded themselves with professionals whether they are screenwriters or costumers.

Their common point: all are fans of Scrooge to different degrees, like the actor Aurélien Cavagne.

He didn't hesitate for a second to be part of the adventure.

“When they call you to ask you to play Géo Trouvetou, you say yes right away.

You don't get paid but that's okay, it's funny, he says.

When there are passionate people, you have to follow them.

Still at the draft stage, the project is nonetheless ambitious.

“We planned a chase scene in the street.

Obviously, we are not going to do it in a real situation in the street, we are going to do it in the studio with a background behind which will look really fake, like in the films of Hitchcock or

OSS 117

with big ruffles, "reveals Hugo who assumes the "cardboard" and sometimes quirky side of his short film.

Celebrating 75 years of Scrooge

If it favors humor, the duo does not intend to skimp on the means.

“Fifteen thousand euros is the minimum we need to make a film”, budget Hugo Mathias who launched an appeal for crowdfunding to be able to start filming.

If no release date is yet planned, the team would like to complete their short film by the end of the year.

The perfect time to celebrate 75 years of Scrooge, who first appeared in December 1947.
