A first case of monkey pox, also called monkeypox, has been confirmed in Pays-de-la-Loire, the Regional Health Agency announced on Friday in a press release.

“The patient is taken care of and shows no signs of seriousness, she explains, without giving further details on his age or more precise location.

The investigation of his contact cases was carried out and made it possible to identify four people, who are also being taken care of, also without signs of seriousness.

To date, health authorities have identified 330 confirmed cases of monkey pox, including 227 in Ile-de-France.

Monkeypox, which has so far not led to any deaths, first results in a high fever and quickly evolves into a rash.

The disease, which until then was contained in about ten African countries, usually heals spontaneously after two to three weeks.
