The sky suddenly went crazy on Wednesday evening in the Roanne region (Loire).

The Roannais was indeed particularly affected by hailstorms, which damaged many roofs.

The main interventions concerned the roofing, which resumed Thursday morning.

Two teams of drone pilots from Puy-de-Dôme are also expected to help with reconnaissance.

Some 2,500 m2 of roof of a chocolate factory in the Coteau have been "damaged", according to the firefighters, who will have to replenish their stock of plastic tarpaulins with a company in Saint-Chamond, near Saint-Etienne .

“Sprayed vehicle windshields”

“The hailstones were as big as golf balls”, relates the town hall of Le Coteau, which underlines “the solidarity between the inhabitants, who lent each other tarpaulins” and “the enormous work of the firefighters”.

Public gardens and green spaces, which had been the subject of "big investments for two years are ruined", deplores the town hall of Coteau.

Creator of the site meteo-villes.com, Guillaume Séchet noted "a stormy supercell" in the Roanne sector, evoking "sprayed vehicle windshields".

These bad weather caused “no casualties”, specify the firefighters.

A new salvo of violent thunderstorms is expected in France this Thursday afternoon.
