"Cake and Sprinkles" exhibition combines entertainment and creativity

12 artists decorate the cultural complex with summer colors and fun

 With joyful summer colors, the exhibition "Cakes and Sprinkles", which opened its doors yesterday, welcomes the audience of the Cultural Complex in Abu Dhabi, providing them with a unique experience that combines entertainment, art and culture, suitable for adults and children, among the works of 12 male and female artists.

The head of the Community Programs Unit at the Cultural Complex, the plastic artist, Sumaya Al-Suwaidi, told "Emirates Today" that the exhibition, which will continue until August 31, comes on the occasion of the start of the summer season, and is inspired by the exhibition "Public Actions" by Emirati artist Farah Al Qasimi, who It opened last March and will continue until September 20, adding that "the concept of public behavior here includes various aspects of the lives of community members, such as food, drink, clothing, children's games and behavior patterns, and other general practices that individuals perform in daily life."

She pointed out that the idea of ​​linking the two exhibitions depends on the complex's work strategy, which is based on a kind of integration between the activities and events offered by the complex at a simultaneous time.

And she continued, "The complex currently houses an exhibition (Another Perspective) by the creative Mohammed Al-Ostad, a pioneering Emirati artist, and Farah Al Qasimi, an Emirati artist of the newer generation of pioneers. Therefore, the (Kicks and Sprinkles) exhibition came to include the works of artists from the modern generation who are still in The beginning of the way to present them to the public.”

She explained that "(Cake and Sprinkles) includes 12 male and female artists and 13 works, and brings together painters, fashion designers, and specialists in architectural design, interior design and decoration," noting that the selection of the artists was made through an announcement in which the Department of Culture and Tourism invited the artists to participate in the exhibition, and within only three days. The number of applications reached 50 for participation, and 12 artists were selected whose works were more in agreement with the theme of the exhibition.

The Head of the Community Programs Unit at the Cultural Complex stated that “the exhibition, which took two months to prepare, is divided into colorful spaces in joyful summer colors, and distributed among its sides works that dealt with the topic of cake and ice cream, and other summer foods that everyone loves, in addition to various games. Suitable for adults and children, so that family members can enjoy together while they are in the place watching the artworks, getting to know the artists who presented them, as well as playing and having fun, all of which are free for all.

The exhibition also includes a corner for decorating small wooden dolls (mannequins) in costumes inspired by ice cream, as each artist decorated and designed one of these models, in addition to a cafe bearing the name of the exhibition itself, in which visitors can sit, making the place an integrated experience.”

Somaya continued: “The exhibition aims to bridge the gap between artists and artworks on the one hand and society on the other hand, and encourage a culture of visiting museums and tasting arts of all kinds, by creating activities that attract families to the complex, encourage adults and children to participate in them on the one hand, and interact with On the other hand, the art galleries set up in the place.

The exhibition also aims to push new talents into the arena and highlight them and introduce them to the public, so we referred to the artist’s personal account on social networking sites along with the painting he presented, in order to encourage the public to view these accounts and learn more about the artists and their other works.

Food, drinks and games

The “Cakes and Sprinkles” exhibition is a fun experience inspired by the artist Farah Al Qasimi’s exhibition “Public Behaviors”, where visitors can enjoy food and drinks, in addition to innovative artworks, in addition to participating in fun games within its designated corners.
