Hades and Persephone: A touch of darkness

by Scarlett St Clair, published on May 5, 2022 by Éditions Hugo Roman.

His favorite quote:

Respect built empires.

Confidence made them unshakable.

Love could make them eternal.

Why this book?

  • Because this novel is a rewriting of the myth of Hades and Persephone,

a famous couple from the Underworld.

There are two versions: the one where Persephone is kidnapped by Hades and the one where she goes to the Underworld of her own free will.

    This second version was chosen.

  • Because if it's a rewrite, we're also talking about modernity.

The novel takes place in our time, in a Greece where gods and mortals live together in harmony.

If we keep the guiding line of the myth, the author has taken liberties, particularly in her representation of the gods.

    I loved his idea!

We always think that Greek deities are always beautiful and perfect, but there, if beauty is present, it's the idea of having them decked out in horns that appealed to me.

I find this idea so interesting.

  • Because the romance takes its time to explode then.

It is known that the Greek gods, in the majority of myths, are adepts of sex.

In this version, Scarlett St Clair has chosen to bring it along.

We see the characters discover each other, understand this attraction between them and then finally see them explore themselves.

It is neither vulgar nor raw.

Admittedly, it's very erotic but it's still very sensual all the same.

  • Because it's the first volume of a trilogy.

Indeed, the author has chosen to develop the story of Hades and Persephone beyond the initial myth.

Some will consider that one volume is enough but the complexity of the romance between the two heroes deserved to be deepened and the volumes to come promise good times.

  • Because Scarlett St Clair's pen is very addictive.

    I absolutely devoured this novel!

I couldn't let go of her before I knew the end.

We have a romance full of pitfalls and actions that immerses the reader in the universe of mythology but also in romantic suspense due to the presence of gods who interact with Hades and Persephone.

This book was read with

I've always loved Greek mythology and this rewrite fulfills my expectations!

A version treating the most famous of the Greek myths with the right dose of modernity and eroticism to make the story captivating at will.
