The program

Le Meilleur pâtissier

– Les professionals

, broadcast on M6, returns this Thursday at 9:15 p.m., with a fifth season and seven new pairs who will compete each week to be designated as the best.

Among them, Maïlys and Monika, the only 100% female team, who worked together at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, a palace in Antibes, in the Alpes-Maritimes.

“We are an exceptional duo, says Maïlys, interviewed by

20 Minutes

.

In addition to enjoying working together, we became friends.

Besides, if it hadn't been with Monika, I wouldn't have entered this competition.

We push each other to succeed.

Our strength is to be complementary despite our different visions of pastry, like yin and yang.

Monika is going to be more technical and formal in her creations and I, a little more about taste, cooking and freestyle.

It also comes from our different backgrounds.

Through this show, Monika and Maïlys want to assert their skills.

“I was always told that since I was a woman and young, I had to do twice as much to succeed.

We are as capable as a man of being a pastry chef,” says Maïlys.

Monika adds: “It surprised me when I arrived in France because in Bulgaria, pastry is more reserved for women.

And even in competitions, more than half of the candidates are women.

We then see with

The best pastry chef – the professionals

a good representation of reality in society: three pairs of men, only one of women and the rest mixed.

Exceptional courses

The two women aged 25 and 23 have always "bathed in pastry".

One, through his parents who are in the business, the other, by practicing from an early age as a passion.

Before embarking on pastry, Maïlys hesitated to join the army.

Finally, she did the hotel school in Talence and really discovered her vocation.

She went through many Michelin stars: the Gabriel in Bordeaux, at Alain Ducasse at the Hostellerie de l'Abbaye de La Celle, but also the Pressoir d'Argent, Gordon Ramsay's restaurant.

To “carve out her own place in the industry”, she decided to go to the Côte d'Azur.

First at the Chèvre d'or in Eze, then passages at the Café de Paris in Monaco and finally the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, where she met Monika.

Today Maïlys has joined the family concept at the Auberge de Cercoux, in Charente-Maritime.

Monika, she did not imagine "at the beginning" to be able to make her passion her job.

It was by participating and winning the equivalent of the "best pastry chef" competition in Bulgaria, in 2017, that she convinced herself to realize her dream.

“I then came to France because it's the land of pastries,” she explains.

After completing Alain Ducasse's National Pastry School in Haute-Loire, she completed her first internships in Paris, followed by seasons in Courchevel and Switzerland.

“It was incredible”, sums up the young woman.

Sharing, advice and laughter

For the challenge but also "to get out of [their] comfort zone", they took up the challenge of the show.

“It's very different from working in the lab, cameras are 10 cm from me, we have equipment we weren't used to.

You have to adapt to the conditions, explain the pastry chefs.

But having all the feedback from the chefs makes us think about our own style.

We make pastries that show our personalities.

Thus, in the events, the two professionals will offer creations that “tell their story”, in particular with products from the Côte d'Azur such as lemon from Menton or rose from Grasse.

"Our style is simple, effective and very well done", describes Maïlys.

A style to find in the show with in addition, "tips".

She promises: “You have to watch the show because there will be sharing, advice, laughter and a whole lot of emotions.
