• A text proposing to “adapt or modify” the Climate law will be submitted to the vote of the regional council on Thursday.

  • “Unacceptable”, react the elected representatives of the left and environmentalists.

The debates promise to be agitated in the hemicycle of the Pays-de-la-Loire regional council on Thursday.

For a few days, the tone has already been rising about a proposal that the right-wing majority wishes to put to the vote.

The text proposes to "adapt or modify" the Climate Law so that it "takes into account the foreseeable demographic and economic dynamics in determining the minimum level of reduction in the consumption of natural, agricultural and forest areas on the period ".

Clearly, as the very attractive territory of Pays-de-la-Loire attracts many inhabitants each year, its president Christelle Morançais wishes to request an exemption from the State.

It calls for the rate of reduction of soil artificialization to be reduced by 34% by 2030, instead of the 50% set in the law (before the objective of “zero artificialization” in 2050).

"Unacceptable from an ecological point of view"

“Such a questioning of national objectives is unacceptable from an ecological point of view, considers the group Ecology Together in a press release.

It would also be terribly unfair from the point of view of territorial equity if our region, which is one of those which have concreted the most over the last decades, could continue to do so even more than the others.

“The ecologists have done their calculations: according to them, this derogation would lead to “the destruction of 3,436 additional hectares, or the equivalent of 2.3 additional football fields each day until 2030”.

The departmental advisers thus demand “the immediate withdrawal of the deliberation”.

The 12 left-wing elected representatives of the Printemps des Pays-de-la-Loire group also condemn "an unjustifiable choice, contrary to the climate emergency".
