Denmark .. a fourth dose of the "Corona" vaccine for those over 50 years old

The Danish government said on Wednesday it is making plans to offer a fourth dose of coronavirus vaccines this fall to older adults and members of at-risk groups.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said the government estimates that 2.5 million people will be eligible for the booster.

Residents of care homes and those exposed to acute symptoms of the virus will be given doses starting from next September 15, followed by anyone over 50 years old starting from the first of next October.

She added that particularly at-risk groups such as the elderly and those with immunodeficiency will have the opportunity to get the fourth dose this summer.

Frederiksen explained that the strategy to combat the Corona virus during the coming months is based on four goals: protecting the elderly and groups at risk of contracting severe symptoms of the virus, ensuring that there is no pressure on hospitals, avoiding imposing closures and restrictions as much as possible, and keeping the country's economy open.

Denmark had ended all restrictions to combat Corona last February, to announce that the disease was not a threat to society.

But the omicron sub-mutant, which has a greater ability to spread than previous mutants, now dominates in Denmark.

It is noteworthy that the daily cases of Corona virus in Denmark, which has a population of 5.8 million people, has doubled during the past month to reach 2,000 cases.

About three million Danes have been infected with the Corona virus at least once, while 85% have received one or more doses of Corona vaccines.
