Heavy damage caused by snow rain the size of tennis balls in France

Storms with strong winds and snow rain the size of tennis balls swept through the area in the early hours of Tuesday morning, disrupting power supplies, damaging rooftops and causing flooding, city officials said.

Emergency services received 900 distress calls.

Thousands of people were without electricity, and emergency shelters were provided for 30 people.

French meteorology issued an orange alert for 27 of the 96 French administrative regions located in Europe, with strong winds, heavy rain and hail expected.
