15%.

It is the proportion of toys marketed in France that put children at risk.

This is the conclusion of the recent investigation by the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF).

Every year, the body scrutinizes the toy sector to monitor the safety they offer children and the level of consumer information,

reports .

In 2020, the DGCCRF teams thus carried out 1,770 checks on 14,000 toy references, at 1,570 physical establishments or online sales.

A rate comparable to previous years

First observation: without in-depth analysis, the investigators found that 18% of the products carried a visual anomaly.

The most frequent visual non-conformities were “faulty plush seams”, allowing too easy access to padding or small elements that are easy for children to swallow.

The DGCCRF selected 520 toys to analyze them more seriously.

Result: 15% of these products were declared “non-compliant” and were withdrawn from the market and destroyed (100,000 products in total).

The CE marking guaranteeing compliance with the safety standards in force was sometimes missing, and the notices and instructions for use were not always available in French.

Each year, the survey results in a rate of around 15%, with no increase or decrease.

Nothing to be alarmed about, therefore, even if it is a relatively high rate.

Caution is therefore called for when spoiling the little ones in the family.
