Baumkuchen using bamboo charcoal from Mabi-cho, Kurashiki City, one of the leading bamboo shoot producing areas in Okayama Prefecture, has been developed and has been on sale in Okayama City since the 20th.

This new product was developed by JA and a Baumkuchen specialty store in Okayama City to support the reconstruction of Mabi-cho, Kurashiki City, which was damaged by the heavy rains in western Japan four years ago.

The dough mixed with edible bamboo charcoal powder produced in Mabi-cho is layered on the outside of the normal dough and baked, so you can enjoy a crispy texture.

On the 20th, a product made by kneading the prefecture's specialty white peach paste into the dough was also released, and families who visited the store immediately bought it.

An elementary school boy who visited with his parents said, "I've never eaten bamboo charcoal, so I'm a little nervous, but I'm looking forward to eating it."

Baumkuchen made from bamboo charcoal will be sold at JA sunny country Okayama's direct sales office and online shop until July 7, and a part of the sales will be donated to Kurashiki City to support the disaster area.

"I was surprised to develop a product using bamboo charcoal, but I was able to make a good product. I hope it will lead to the reconstruction of Mabi-cho," said Ken Yasui, director of agriculture in Okayama, JA sunny country.
