Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress attended the award ceremony of the Japan Art Academy Prize, which is given to those who have made outstanding achievements in the field of art.

Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress arrived at the Japan Art Academy in Taito-ku, Tokyo before 10:30 am on the 20th.



A total of five people attended the award ceremony of the Japan Art Academy Prize this year, and the gift award given to the outstanding achievements was given by the calligrapher Goju Ushikubo (77), his real name, Isao Ushikubo. The novelist Yasutaka Tsutsui (87) and the gagaku player Nagao Okubo (73) were selected.

At the award ceremony, each of the winners went out in front of Their Majesties and received a certificate, and their Majesties were applauded with a smiley expression.

After that, Their Majesties received explanations about their achievements from the winners of the Imperial Prize, and asked the calligrapher Mr. Ushikubo, "Isn't it really hard to write one?" The Empress was saying, "It's powerful, isn't it?"
