At the pool of an elementary school in Niihama City, Ehime Prefecture, which has been closed down, a demonstration experiment is being conducted to cultivate freshwater fish using ICT = information and communication technology.

The demonstration experiment is being conducted in the 25-meter pool of the facility "Wakurie Niihama", which was established last year by renovating the former Wakamiya Elementary School in Niihama City, which was closed four years ago.

A local cable TV station commissioned by the city has begun aquaculture of freshwater fish as part of the effective use of the facility.

In this pool, we have introduced a system that measures water temperature and water quality using ICT = information and communication technology and allows you to check it from a remote location on your smartphone.

Since November of last year, we have raised about 2000 freshwater fish of the Cyprinidae family, "Honmoroko", and succeeded in breeding this spring.

By utilizing the system, we were able to grasp the transition of water temperature in real time and accurately predict the time of spawning.

Honmoroko is currently being moved to another aquarium, and the pool will start cultivating new catfish this month.

The cable TV station that operates the business wants to develop a system that can automatically feed and remotely monitor the state of fish in the future.

Yu Shiraishi, who is in charge of aquaculture, said, "Experiments are proceeding smoothly so far. There are many closed schools in the prefecture, so I would like to develop a system that allows aquaculture using a pool easily and cheaply." increase.
