Recently, in Wujiagang District, Yichang City, Hubei Province, a young woman, Xiong Shuju, used a knife instead of a pen to carve various patterns on eggshells as thin as cicada wings.

Egg carving is a kind of folk handicraft carved on the eggshells of birds. It is a district-level intangible cultural heritage in Wujiagang, Yichang City.

At the beginning of 2013, Xiong Shuju saw the local intangible cultural heritage gourd pyrography while traveling in Hebei, so he came up with the idea of learning egg carving.

An egg carving work has to go through more than a dozen processes such as egg selection, punching, clearing, conception, drawing, carving, etc. Xiong Shuju gradually mastered the egg carving skills through self-study.

At present, Xiong Shuju has carved more than 1,000 works, including "Three Gorges Dam", "Dragon and Phoenix Showing Auspiciousness", "Four Ancient Gods and Beasts", etc. Many works have won awards in domestic egg carving exhibitions.

Xiong Shuju said that this art should be learned and passed on, so that more people can know the art of egg carving.
