In a trial in which three same-sex couples living in Kyoto and Kagawa prefectures sought compensation from the government, saying that it was a violation of the Constitution that same-sex marriage was not allowed, the Osaka District Court decided that it did not violate the Constitution. And dismissed the complaint.

Similar class proceedings have been filed in five locations nationwide, of which the first decision of the Sapporo District Court in March last year rejected claims for compensation, but the constitution stipulated equality before the law. The constitutional judgment was divided between the Sapporo District Court and the Osaka District Court, indicating the judgment of violation.
