It is now forbidden to water there night or day and industrial water consumption must be reduced by 60%.

In 26 municipalities in the middle country of the Alpes-Maritimes*, north-west of Nice, on the Estéron watershed, the prefect has just triggered "the crisis stage", the highest level of severity in the event of drought. , announced the prefecture this weekend.

"The latest flow measurements of the rivers show that the flow of the Estéron has now fallen below the crisis threshold, and this for more than seven consecutive days", specify the State services in the department, which have therefore tightened the restrictions.

Only the Cannes region is currently exempt from restrictions

At the end of May, the prefecture had already extended the "drought alert" to 153 municipalities (out of a total of 163) in the Alpes-Maritimes, where it is notably forbidden to water between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., to fill your swimming pool or yet to wash his car outside water-saving stations.

They are therefore 127 to still be concerned, including Nice, Antibes and even Menton.

The Cannes region is spared for the moment.

“La Siagne downstream benefits, at this stage, from a secure reserve” of water.

"Given the tense situations in several watersheds, the prefecture calls for the greatest vigilance throughout the department" and recalls that it is necessary in particular "to favor showers, install water-saving sanitary equipment" or even " run the washing machines at full capacity”.
