On the evening of the 18th, in Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture, a boy who seems to be an elementary school student slipped and fell into an aqueduct, and a woman who tried to help was also washed away.

The two were believed to be parents and were taken to the hospital, but were later confirmed dead.

According to police and fire departments, at around 5:30 pm on the 18th, a woman in the neighborhood reported that "a boy fell into an aqueduct and his mother was swept away trying to help" in Morijima-machi, Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture.

Before 6 pm, the two were rescued by a fire department and taken to a hospital where they were being washed away in a straight line about 1.5 km from the place where they fell, but they died after being in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest. It was confirmed.

According to the police, the boy is an elementary school student, and it seems that he slipped and fell while playing near the irrigation canal with his siblings, according to the story of his relatives.

The irrigation canal is about 3 meters wide and about 1 meter deep, which means that the water flow is fast.

Police consider the two to be parents and children living in Ishikawa prefecture, and are proceeding with confirmation of their identities and investigating the detailed situation.

A series of irrigation canal accidents nationwide

Accidents in irrigation canals are occurring all over the country.

On the 14th of this month, a 63-year-old man working in a field in Date City, Fukushima Prefecture, died when he fell into an aqueduct with a mower.

Don't play near the irrigation canal

Local governments in each region are calling for special attention to fall accidents for children and the elderly, saying that the water level of agricultural canals will increase from spring to autumn when agricultural work is flourishing.

In order to prevent accidents, we ask people to talk to each other in the area and at home so that they do not play near the irrigation canals or approach them carelessly. ..

Also, when working near the irrigation canal, such as mowing, we encourage people to do more than one person.
