The General Administration of National Security at the Ministry of Interior in Tunisia announced the arrest of a woman who deliberately threw her newborn into a cemetery in the Korba region of the state of Nabeul.

In a statement, the General Administration of National Security indicated that “following information received by the security units of the Continuity Center in the National Security District in Tamim’s house, that a baby was found lying in a cemetery in the direction of Qorba, the shift was immediately accompanied by public health officials, and the infant was transferred to one of the Local hospitals to monitor his health.

The administration’s statement stated that, “After investigations by the security units of the Judicial Police Squad in Tamim’s house and the National Security Center in Qirba Al Janoubia, it was possible to limit the suspicion to a married woman, a mother of four, and her husband has been imprisoned for about 6 months.”

During investigations, the accused revealed that she had agreed with her husband to hide her pregnancy from the family due to the deterioration of their social conditions.

The mother reported that she gave birth to her newborn in one of the cemeteries and cut the umbilical cord on her own with scissors she brought with her, then left him alone and left immediately without anyone noticing her.
