In Hirono Town, Iwate Prefecture, where the catch of sea urchins is the highest in Honshu, the fishing "Hamaore", which is carried out in shallow water with low tide, has begun, and the beach has become lively with many people.

On the 16th, about 30 members of the fishery cooperative gathered at the Shukudogyo Harbor in Hirono Town and went out to the shallow water where the tide was low to fish.

This "Hamashita" performed in shallow water does not require deep diving skills, so many women and elderly people participated, and the beach was full of energy.

In fishing, I looked into the sea while submerged in the water up to my waist, and picked up sea urchins one after another with a stick with a key.

It takes about 2 hours to fish and averages 5 kg per person.

It means that many people took about 10 kg.

Hirono Town digs a ditch in a shallow rocky area so that seaweed that feeds sea urchins grows even when the tide is low, and it is possible to catch sea urchins in a stable manner, and the catch is the highest in Honshu.

Shigeru Fukikiri, chairman of the Shukunohe Fisheries Executive Committee of the Hirono Town Fisheries Cooperative, said, "The seawater temperature has dropped since early spring, and there are abundant seaweeds to feed on. It's a delicious sea urchin. I really want you to enjoy the real taste. "

In Hirono Town, this "Hamashita" will be held until the end of this month, after which skin diving will be held offshore until August.
