Kuwait..a gang selling fake coins for half their value, "profits in millions of dinars"

The Anti-Counterfeiting and Counterfeiting Crimes Department in Kuwait has managed to seize a gang consisting of (three Africans and a European) committing fraud by selling counterfeit US $100 bills and counterfeit Kuwaiti coins for half their value in authentic Kuwaiti coins.

Their residence was raided and the gang members seized and a number of counterfeit Kuwaiti banknotes in denominations of 20 Kuwaiti dinars of the sixth issue, US dollars in denominations of 100 dollars and one dollar denomination, white and green papers, adhesive, plastic bags, white powder, a large black box, white cotton and two bottles vintage.

The investigations in the case revealed details and surprises, as the defendants admitted that they had been working in counterfeiting currencies for a long time, with the participation of 11 other people.

A security source told Al-Qabas newspaper that the accused reaped huge financial gains estimated at millions of dinars from their criminal activity in counterfeiting money.

The source added: The defendants instructed the administration men to an apartment in the Salmiya area, which they took as a headquarters for printing money, and by raiding it, printers and technical devices for counterfeiting Kuwaiti dinars and US dollars were found.

The source revealed that the detectives found amounts estimated at about two million Kuwaiti dinars in addition to one million US dollars, all of them fake, and they were stored in bags in preparation for their exchange with real cash.

The sources indicated that the detectives arrested 11 other defendants, "all of whom are of European nationalities of African origin," and they all confessed that they had sold counterfeit money to Kuwaitis and residents before their case was exposed, and investigations are still ongoing with them.
