The heat raises fears of the worst for the Ile-de-France forests, warns the National Forestry Office (ONF) in a press release published earlier this week.

"Météo-France has placed Île-de-France at high risk of forest fires on Friday and maximum on Saturday", writes the ONF.

The very high temperatures to come (40 degrees expected for Saturday) and the lack of water threaten the vegetation.

The ONF therefore calls for public vigilance, especially since visitors traditionally flock to green spaces in June.

Adopt the right gestures

The office recalls that one in two fires is caused by humans and that the right actions can help avoid an environmental tragedy.

Thus, it is recalled that one should not throw cigarettes on the ground and avoid lighting campfires and barbecues.

It should be noted that work that generates sparks and the installation of combustibles (wood, fuel oil, butane) against dwellings also represents a danger.

If you also witness a fire or the start of a fire, dial 18 or 112 immediately and get away from the flames as quickly as possible.

In Île-de-France, the ONF has already counted around ten fires in public forests since the beginning of spring.

The largest of them ravaged eight hectares of forest in the Yvelines.
