Gare du Sud will bounce back.

This is what the mayor of Nice, who relied heavily on the now moribund gourmet market, in any case promised this Thursday.

In conflict with the current operator, Christian Estrosi has announced the arrival of a buyer: “the family group” of Renato Iera, which notably owns the IT Italian cuisine restaurants.

One of which already occupies the end of the building inaugurated in 2019 in the Liberation district.

In its project, the group imagined a new concept based on the gastronomy of the Mediterranean basin and therefore baptized “Mediterraneo”.

The dishes offered will be of Italian origin of course, but also with flavors from the Orient, Greece, Lebanon or even Spain.

"By the end of the year"

Iera "will operate the entire project", specifies the mayor of Nice.

The handful of restaurateurs still present in the hall, some of whom are still on trial with Urban Renaissance, the current operator, will therefore have to give up their place.

The transfer of the long-term administrative lease to the buyer must still be validated by a vote of the municipal council, at the end of the month.

"The city fervently hopes that the project can be completed by the end of the year", supports Christian Estrosi.

In the meantime, the Iera group should continue to refine its project, in particular on the question of refreshing the premises.

It already plans to green the space, which will have more seats and will host associations upstairs.
