This weekend, several researchers went out in DN Debatt with heavy criticism of screen use for young children.

Among other things, they claim that it interferes with children's learning and impairs language development.

Also that the Swedish curriculum, which states that children in preschool must work with digital tools, is risky and of dubious benefit.

Among other things, the task of the Swedish Media Council is to monitor media development among children and young people, and to protect young people from harmful media influences.

There is no long-term research

The fact that young children use digital media, according to Yvonne Andersson, researcher and analyst at the Swedish Media Council, is a relatively new phenomenon.

It is therefore too early to say whether it is right or wrong.

- There is not really any more long-term research in this area, so we can not say much about how this affects children and young people's development in the long run, says Yvonne Andersson.
