When the recasting of Täby's cultural school was presented in 2019, there was an outcry among groups of parents and students.

Several music teachers who gave lessons under the municipality's own auspices were fired.

Almost 800 students were forced to change teachers.

- It is clear that it was very boring but we had to do something new.

It always happens when you make a reorganization, says Birgitta Kaasik (M), chairman of the culture and leisure committee in Täby.

"Felt Forgotten"

A group of parents and older students collected over seven hundred signatures against the privatization.

The local newspaper Mitt i described the atmosphere as "angry" when the name list "SAVE Täby municipal music school" was handed over to politicians.

Rasmus Andersson, who played violin and viola under municipal direction in Täby, was one of many who got involved in the appeal.

- The decision on the reorganization was surprising.

It got messy when they suddenly had to fire our teachers.

We felt so heavenly forgotten, he says.

Rasmus and his friends were contacted by the private actors who offered further education with them.

- I tried to be open and find a trained violin teacher.

The answer I got was: we have violin teachers who can very well imagine playing the viola.

- But it's a completely different way of playing.

I applied to Danderyd's cultural school where they have a trained violin teacher instead.

Rasmus Andersson is disappointed with Täby's municipal politicians.

He thinks that the solution with private performers disadvantages those who want to play narrower instruments.

- I know a fairly large number of people who play the harp and who have not found a private player.

They have had to look for teachers on their own.

M: "Be very boring"

Birgitta Kaasik (M) says that the municipality's solution is for students to apply outside Täby's borders for the instruments we play that are not offered by the private schools.

She comments on the loud criticism of the reorganization in 2019.

- It was very boring, but I think we handled it well.

We gathered the guardians who were allowed to ask all the questions they wanted, says Birgitta Kaasik.

- If you get something new, you can get a little funky.

I have not heard anything (complaints) in these years.
