China News Service, Beijing, June 14 (Reporter Yuan Xiuyue) Does blood donation affect the body?

Does "Panda Blood" Affect Health?

Do you still believe some misunderstandings about blood donation?

June 14th is World Blood Donor Day. The "Temperature of Medicine" column of Chinanews.com specially invited Zhu Yuqi, director of the Department of Orthopedics, Chief Physician, and postgraduate tutor of the Eye Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, and Guo Jin, Deputy Chief Technician of the Beijing Red Cross Blood Center, Beijing. Qi Xuming, the "Parent" of the Love Home of the Municipal Red Cross Blood Center, talked about the story of voluntary blood donation.

What are the requirements to donate blood?

Don't believe these mistakes!

At present, more and more people are joining the blood donation team.

According to the previous introduction by the National Health and Medical Commission, the number of unpaid blood donations in my country has continued to increase, from 328,000 in 1998 to 15.53 million in 2020, an increase of 47 times.

But at the same time, there are also many people who don't know much about blood donation, or only know some "wrong knowledge".

Guo Jin, deputy chief technician of the Beijing Red Cross Blood Center, introduced that regarding blood donation, my country has specially compiled the "Requirements for Health Examination of Blood Donors", which clearly lists various requirements for blood donation.

First of all, in terms of age, healthy citizens aged 18-55 can participate in unpaid blood donation.

If you have participated in voluntary blood donation for many times, and there is no adverse reaction, and you have the will, you can extend it to 60 years old.

In addition to age, there are general health indicators such as weight, blood pressure, pulse, body temperature, etc.

Before donating blood, some healthy physical examinations and tests are also required. Blood donors are asked to fill in the health consultation document, and have an in-depth understanding of their personal health history, life history, and travel history. After comprehensively considering these factors, if there is no unsuitable blood donation situation , it is judged to be able to donate blood.

She suggested that you should not be overly nervous before donating blood, eat a light diet, don't drink alcohol the day before, and get a good night's sleep.

It has long been rumored that donating blood can cause damage to the body, is that true?

Guo Jin clarified that, in fact, voluntary blood donation is not harmful to people's health.

She explained that although blood donation is a blood loss process, it has little effect on the loss of blood volume.

A 50 kg adult has a total blood volume of about 3500-4000ml, and each donation is 200 or 400ml, which is less than 10% of the total blood volume.

WHO believes that a healthy adult, donating blood does not exceed 13% of his total blood volume has no adverse effects on the body.

Some people also reported that after donating blood, there will be symptoms such as dizziness and fatigue. Is this normal?

Guo Jin said that the vast majority of blood donors will not have adverse reactions after donating blood.

However, due to individual differences, a small number of blood donors may experience slight dizziness or even a brief faint, which is a normal physiological response.

In this regard, she suggested that blood donors should drink plenty of water within four hours after donating blood, do not engage in heavy physical or strenuous physical activity on the day of blood donation, do not stay up late, and after a good rest, these conditions will recover quickly.

"I personally think that the greatest benefit of blood donation for blood donors is that it can promote the establishment or maintenance of a healthy lifestyle and philosophy. In addition, the psychological well-being and sense of harvest brought by saving lives are also very important. Aspects." Guo Jin said.

Is "panda blood" hereditary?

Does it affect health?

Rh-negative blood is also known as "panda blood" in China because of its rarity.

Qi Xuming, the "parent" of the Love Home of the Beijing Red Cross Blood Center, introduced that Rh blood group and ABO blood group are two blood group systems closely related to clinical blood transfusion.

If a person's red blood cells have antigens on them, then it is positive blood, if there is no antigen, then it is negative blood, which is what we call Rh negative blood.

"The distribution of Rh-negative blood is closely related to ethnicity. For example, the proportion of Rh-negative blood in Europe is about 15%, but in my country's Han population, it only accounts for 3/1,000. Rh-negative blood is also divided into Rh-negative. Type A, Rh-negative type B, Rh-negative type O, and Rh-negative type AB, the ratio is about 3:3:3:1. That is to say, people with Rh-negative type AB are rare among the rare, accounting for the proportion of the population Less than one thousandth." Qi Xuming said.

So, is Rh negative blood hereditary?

Does it affect health?

Qi Xuming said that Rh negative blood is hereditary, but it will not affect your health.

It should be noted that, under normal circumstances, Rh-negative people cannot receive blood from Rh-positive people.

Rh-negative pregnant women must explain their blood type to the doctor in advance, and do regular antibody screening during the perinatal health care process.

In order to ensure the blood supply of people with rare blood types, Beijing Red Cross Blood Center established the Rare Blood Type Love Home in 2001, and all members are Rh-negative blood donors.

She shared that the deepest impression was of a burn patient who suffered severe burns to more than 50% of his body.

At that time, the epidemic situation was tense, there were few people on the street, and the patient was in urgent need of skin grafting.

The premise of skin grafting surgery is blood, and 2000ml of Rh-negative blood type O is needed to make an arm.

After receiving the notice, the friends of the Home of Love began to rescue people. Five people came to donate blood today, and ten people came to donate blood tomorrow, until the patient recovered and was discharged from the hospital.

According to statistics, about 60 blood donors before and after the relay blood donation.

"In normal life, they come from all walks of life, including courier boys, company bosses, professors, kindergarten directors, police officers, and truck drivers. When they receive the emergency blood donation notice, they will not hesitate to put down their jobs. They came to the blood center to donate blood, so we called them 'Panda Heroes' and they all have a chivalrous heart." Qi Xuming said.

"You not only cured my disease, but also saved my life with blood"

"Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join us and save lives." This is the slogan of this year's World Blood Donor Day, and it also shows the importance of blood donation in saving the lives of others.

"More than 30 years ago, I was working at the grassroots level. One winter, it was very late. A three- or four-year-old child was taken to see a doctor. His face was pale. The only solution for the child is blood transfusion, and it is still AB type. At that time, there was no good blood collection institution and blood supply, what should I do? I remembered that my lover was AB type, so I called her up to test, donate blood, and finally The child has turned the corner. From this, I felt that blood transfusion is very important for rescue, and I thought that I must be a volunteer who donates blood for free."

Speaking of the process of bonding with blood donation, Zhu Yuqi, director of the Department of Orthopedics, Chief Physician, and postgraduate tutor of the Eye Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, still remembers it vividly.

He started donating blood in 1998, and has been doing it for 24 consecutive years, donating whole blood and platelets about 56 times.

"Doctors who save lives" plus "long-term unpaid blood donors", Zhu Yuqi's story has too many scenes of saving people in danger.

Zhu Yuqi recalled that in the past, after blood donation, the name will be written on the blood transfusion bag. During the operation, the blood needs to be checked and the names of the blood transfusion recipient and the patient are checked.

Once Zhu Yuqi performed an operation on a patient, he happened to use his own blood.

The nurse wondered, this "Zhu Yuqi" could not be our director.

Later, the patient recovered very well after the operation. Before leaving, he also sent a pennant to thank Zhu Yuqi, "You not only cured my disease, but also saved my life with blood."

In order to ensure blood quality, Zhu Yuqi does not smoke or drink alcohol all year round, maintains a healthy diet, and has always been in good physical condition. It is no problem to run three or five kilometers.

People around him often say that he walks like a young man.

"It feels good to give roses and leave a lingering fragrance in your hands." Zhu Yuqi said.
