Drought is already threatening in the Hérault.

The indicators of water resources in the department are beginning to show "the first signs of tension", indicated the prefecture.

The current hydrological year, from September 2021 to June 2022, remains “overall in deficit, around 30 to 40%” from Sète to the Hérault valley.

A deficit that the rainy episode of March did not reduce.

According to the prefecture, groundwater reserves have levels "normal to low for the period" and "90% of groundwater levels are down".

River flows fell rapidly in May, a hot and dry month.

The Hérault part of the Vidourle basin is particularly monitored: it has been placed on alert.

This leads to a ban, in this sector, on the filling of swimming pools, the washing of cars outside the stations, and the watering of lawns between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Elsewhere, if, for the moment, no restrictive measure has been initiated, the prefecture invites the inhabitants to "economical water management".
