A joke that does not pass at all.

The SNCF recently drew the wrath of French airlines with an advertisement deemed dubious and unwelcome on the Eurostar, reports

On a black background, the ad declares: “Of course the airlines are green…”, followed, in smaller letters and in parentheses, by “jealousy”.

An advertisement that directly targets the railway company's air competitors, highlighting the ecological advantages of train travel.

A shower of criticism

The joke did not go unnoticed at the Paris Air Forum, where industry professionals described the advertisement as "stupidity" and "provocation".

"The SNCF in France is a diva, a sacred cow that we do not attack," declared the president of the airline Corsair.

"The SNCF wants to present itself as a white knight of ecology, it's not true", for its part declared the Union of French airports.

The professionals notably asked the railway company to show a little more "decency" by not attacking its French competitors in this way.

Some, like the president of the National Federation of Merchant Aviation, assumed that the SNCF felt put in difficulty by the imminent arrival of Trenitalia on the Paris-Lyon rail link.

"We would do better to play with its electric trains rather than to be interested in competition which is not direct", concluded the president of the Federation.
