10 years in prison for the owner of "An-Nahar" channel in Algeria

Yesterday, Monday, an Algerian court sentenced the owner of the "An-Nahar" media group, Anis Rahmani, to 10 years in prison on corruption charges, according to what was published by the group's news website, An-Nahar.

The same sources stated that Anis Rahmani, whose real name is Mohamed Moghadam, who is close to Said Bouteflika, brother of the former president, had previously been sentenced to 3 years in prison in March 2021 in the case of recording and broadcasting a call with an intelligence colonel.

However, Algerian law does not collect rulings, but rather considers the supreme ruling only.

He was charged with "misuse of the funds of the Al-Atheer Press Company in bad faith", from which the "An-Nahar" group was founded, "violating the legislation regulating money and exchange", "exploiting influence and state agents to obtain undue benefits" and "false declaration" about taxes.

Rahmani was tried along with businessman Mohieddine Tahkout, who was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for "money laundering".

The criminal pole specializing in financial and economic crimes at the Sidi M'hamed Court in central Algiers also decided to fine Al-Atheer Press company 32 million dinars (about 209 thousand euros) and pay compensation to the public treasury in the amount of 10 million dinars (more than 65 thousand euros).
