Giant elephant kills an old Indian woman, then chases after her after her death

In a strange incident, a giant elephant killed a seventy-year-old woman in eastern India. The elephant did not leave the woman after she died, but stormed her funeral and trampled on her.

Maya Mormo was attacked by an elephant, last Thursday, while she was carrying water to her home in the village of Raipal, according to Sky News.

The attack resulted in Murmo's death being run over, after the medical team failed to save her, according to the British newspaper, "Daily Mail".

Indian media reported that the elephant was not satisfied with killing Mormo, as he returned to the site of her funeral, and while her family was about to burn her body, he trampled on her again.

The reports gave no details of other people being harmed by the elephant that escaped from the funeral site.

Indian authorities believe the elephant is on the run from the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary in Jharkhand state, 200 km from Raipal.

The Indian government is trying to reduce elephant accidents by placing wireless collars on them, and sending short text messages to citizens, when these animals roam in populated areas.

It is worth noting that elephants kill about 100 people in India annually, according to statistics from the World Wildlife Fund.
