The Covid-19 is gradually resurfacing in France.

With 24,201 positive cases on Friday June 3, the number of contaminations, which had been falling since March, is climbing again.

The fault with the arrival of the sub-variants of Omicron, more contagious, but also with the abandonment of barrier gestures.

After two months of decline, the number of positive cases for Covid-19 seems to be picking up again in France.

According to Public Health France, the epidemic has started to rebound in recent days with a resumption of contamination.

On average 23,000 people have tested positive for Covid per day this week.

The average was 18,000 just 10 days ago.

Some regions are more affected.

For example Corrèze where there are 283 cases per 100,000 people.

1,850 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in Martinique

This remains a long way from the incidence rate in the Overseas Territories.

In Martinique there are 1,850 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

For the moment, we do not feel any impact in hospitals, since there is always a lag of two to three weeks between the increase in contamination and hospital admissions.

More contagious subvariants

Several factors explain this epidemic rebound: the arrival of the Omicron BA 4 and BA5 sub-variants, which are more contagious.

In France, these two incarnations of the Omicron variant are gaining ground even if they remained in the minority in the figures stopped last week: less than 1% of new cases for BA.4 and 5% for BA.5.

The abandonment of barrier gestures is also an explanation.

The health authorities are calling in particular to put the mask back in closed places.
