Located in what is known as Valencian Biarritz, the history of the imposing Belle Époque villa that houses the

Palasiet Thalasso Clinic&Hotel

(Benicàssim) is as exciting as that of Joaquín Farnós, the visionary physician who founded this

temple of wellness

in 1970 (long before that this concept existed as such) after discovering, at the Helio Marino Center in Colliure (France) -one of the oldest and most prestigious in Europe-, the extraordinary

healing power of sea water

.

Pioneer of thalassotherapy in Spain and great teacher of a whole generation of European rehabilitation doctors and physiotherapists, Farnós turned that beautiful town, once the scene of mythical parties and meetings of high society at the beginning of the 20th century, into a

place of pilgrimage

to which , for half a century, thousands of visitors have come in search of a cure.

"My first memories of childhood are of people who arrived with

very serious health problems

and left completely renewed. Not even in Lourdes have so many miracles been performed as here!" exclaims Pablo Farnós, director of Palasiet and continuator, together with his brothers , from the extraordinary

legacy of his parents

, who died last year.

While caressing the regal head of Pole Pole (slowly in Swahili), his inseparable Labrador retriever, Farnós explains that "thalassotherapy is a treatment that is carried out with

seawater at about 35 or 36 degrees Celsius

which, due to osmosis, it's the ideal temperature for

the body to rebalance itself

."

We are water and this physical and emotional immersion makes us return to the beginning of everything, to the beginning of life.

"People arrive very sad, very maladjusted, especially after the pandemic. We come out of

very similar processes, of loss and mourning

that we need to go through to sustain ourselves in some way," says Lourdes Ramón Segarra, counselor at Palasiet Talaso Clinica.

Palasiet's clients seek much more than a physical healing.

"Here, as soon as you arrive, a vital stop is made. The window of the room is opened, the Mediterranean is contemplated and the aroma of pines and the sea is breathed in. You listen to what the body says and everything is placed differently. In short,

it takes a step back to contemplate life in a different way

, "he says.

Doctors, nutritionists, physiotherapists, personal trainers and beauty treatment specialists design

a personalized roadmap

based on the circumstances of each person.

"Before their arrival, normally, we usually make a phone call to talk with our clients and, in this way, and detect their needs. Through these conversations, we perceive what each person brings. Later, they fill out a questionnaire doctor, who provides us with very valuable information about

your state of health, your life habits and your goals

".

Functional rehabilitation, weight loss, personal training, nutritional advice, beauty treatments... The specialists at Palasiet Thalasso Clínica&Hotel, through programs of different durations, guide clients so that they enter the path of healthy habits.

"Our mission is to help

achieve well-being through self-care

. It is about taking

responsibility for our own processes

and, for this, we provide the resources that, later, they can put into practice in their day to day. To do this, we What we do is help, little by little, to make our clients

aware

of how they are".

Segarra remembers with affection and admiration the figure of his mentor, Joaquín Farnós.

"He was always inquiring about how he could improve people's lives and that's where his motivation came from to always bring new things. He was, without a doubt,

a man who led by example

. He went down to the pools every day and did his treatments. Long before anyone else, he was already betting on that self-care that is now so much talked about as a guarantor of

healthy longevity

".

In these 50 years, more than 150,000 people have found, in this corner of Benicàssim, a haven of peace.

French, English, Spanish, young, rich, elderly, celebrities... Dressed in the

fluffy Palasiet bathrobe

, the legendary American model Christy Turlington has been seen walking around, and enjoying the delicacies of

a deliciously healthy menu

, together with her husband , actor Edward Burns;

the no less legendary Valeria Mazza and Alejandro Gravier, her husband;

to the long-awaited Arturo Fernández: the vitalist Candela Peña or players from the English Premier League whose names cannot be revealed (yes, that and some more) who have traveled there to recover from an injury.

Physical injuries.

Soul wounds.

We all have some.

And, thanks to Joaquín Farnós, we have a place to go to try to heal them.
