Study: Pfizer vaccine protects against sub-strains of the Omicron mutant

A study by the South African company Discovery Health showed that the Pfizer and Bionict COVID-19 vaccine appears to significantly prevent severe disease caused by infection with the two sub-strains of the Omicron mutant, PA4.

and PA5, according to Bloomberg News.

A study by Discovery Health, South Africa's largest health insurance company, found that the two-dose Pfizer program prevented 87% of hospitalization for patients with both strains.

These two strains are driving the fifth wave of infections in South Africa.

Discovery Health based its study on 1.58 million customers it has in Gauteng province.

This level of prophylaxis was attributed to infection in patients one to two months after receiving the second dose of the vaccine.
