According to the Pearl River Commission, since the 2nd, continuous heavy rainfall has occurred in the middle and upper reaches of the Pearl River Basin. The cumulative rainfall in southeastern Guizhou, northern Guangxi and other places has reached 100 mm to 250 mm, and the local area has exceeded 250 mm. The maximum cumulative rainfall station is 512 mm from Zailao Station in Rongshui County, Guangxi.
Affected by the rainfall, 25 rivers including Liujiang River and Guijiang River experienced excessive floods. Among them, the upper reaches of Liujiang River suffered a 5-year flood.
According to the forecast of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, the rainfall in the Pearl River Basin will continue in the next week, and the main rivers in the basin will maintain high water levels. Rivers may have floods exceeding the warning level, and the risk of flash flood disasters is high.
In view of the current flood control situation in the basin, the Pearl River Commission has upgraded the emergency response to flood and drought disaster prevention from level IV to level III.
At the same time, Wang Baoen, executive deputy commander-in-chief of the Pearl River Defence General Administration and director of the Pearl River Committee, has presided over a flood control chamber of commerce to conduct ongoing discussions to study and judge the flood control situation in the basin, and redeploy and implement the rainstorm and flood defense work.
