Health Food Safety withdraws batches of Kinder products from the Spanish market after cases of salmonella in Europe
Health Europe records 324 cases of salmonellosis related to Kinder chocolates and eight of unknown origin
Spain already has
two confirmed
and three probable cases of monophasic 'Salmonella Typhimurium' related to chocolate products made in a factory in Arlon (Belgium) by the
Kinder company
, according to data from the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) published this Tuesday.
As of June 3,
370 cases
of salmonellosis and 22 probable have been identified in the
European Union
and the United Kingdom, while globally the figure rises to 423 confirmed and 22 probable.
This outbreak of
salmonellosis
is characterized by a "high proportion" of hospitalized cases (about 40%) and some cases with
severe clinical symptoms
such as bloody diarrhoea.
Kinder
's chocolate factory
was closed on April 8 and product recalls were launched globally.
"As a result of the
control measures
, the number of cases has started to decrease," says the ECDC.
Likewise, the European center points out that the
public health
and food safety authorities are carrying out new investigations in the countries in which cases have been registered to "
identify the cause
and extent of the contamination, and guarantee that the contaminated products do not are marketed".
