Regarding the Joetsu Shinkansen that connects Tokyo and Niigata, JR East has decided to strengthen noise control measures and raise the maximum speed to 275 km / h, which is 35 km faster than the current speed from next spring.

The time between Tokyo and Niigata can be shortened by up to 7 minutes, and depending on the schedule, it can be less than an hour and a half.

The Joetsu Shinkansen currently runs at a maximum speed of 240 km and connects Tokyo and Niigata in 1 hour and 36 minutes at the fastest.

JR East is aiming to increase the speed of the Joetsu Shinkansen, and has taken measures against noise by raising the noise barrier on the side of the track and installing a sound absorbing board. We have strengthened measures such as replacing the "trolley line" with a strengthened one that can withstand high-speed driving.

The construction is expected to be completed by the end of this year over about four years, and JR East has decided to speed up the Joetsu Shinkansen in line with the timetable revision next spring.

By increasing the maximum speed from 240 km to 275 km by 35 km, the time required between Tokyo and Niigata will be shortened by up to 7 minutes, and depending on the timetable, it will be possible to cut it to less than an hour and a half.

JR East says, "By speeding up, we would like to promote exchanges between the Joetsu region and the Tokyo metropolitan area, and contribute to the increase in the exchange population and regional revitalization."
