His favorite quote:

The Perdido, as everyone knew, did not return its dead.

Why this book?

  • Because each new volume of the epic

    Blackwater

    saga surprises

the reader who, moreover, has become strongly attached to the characters.

We think we are getting bogged down in the daily life of the clan and we expect the series to lose its incredible romantic breath, but the author always finds something to restart the machine!

  • Because in this novel, the Caskey family sees its wealth

and its hold on the city of Perdido increase tenfold: the author takes the opportunity to explore America's black gold, imagining powerful oil deposits on the lands of the Caskey.

    But does money buy happiness?

    Not necessarily.

  • Because Michael McDowell puts very fair and powerful words

on the deep malaise of Frances Caskey, this character that we saw born and grow.

Torn between two worlds, between two identities, Frances struggles to find her place.

Her motherhood only widens the gap between the two facets of her personality.

Michael McDowell then gives us disturbing pages, and certainly sad, of incredible power.

  • Because as often, the novel ends on what the Americans

call a terrible cliffhanger: the end of the story reshuffles the cards... What will happen in the final volume of this saga that we have learned so much? to love ?
