Governor Oishi said that there are calls for a review of Nagasaki Prefecture's mascot characters "Ganba-kun" and "Ramba-chan," who set boys as captains and girls as deputy captains, from the perspective of gender equality. In response to the NHK document interview, he answered that he was "considering a review."

"Ganba-kun" and "Ramba-chan" with the motif of mandarin duck are the mascot characters of the prefecture that were born in accordance with the "Nagasaki Ganbaramba National Athletic Meet" in 2014. Bakun is the captain, and Ramba-chan, the girl, is the deputy captain.

Regarding this setting, there were voices in the prefectural assembly questioning the setting from the perspective of gender equality, and in February, a request for review was submitted by a women's association in the prefecture.

This time, NHK asked Governor Oishi, who took office in March, in writing about his thoughts on this issue.

As a result, they answered that they were "considering" the review.

The reason is that "there is a growing awareness of gender in society, and there are opinions that there are problems from a gender perspective."

This is the first time that the prefecture has stated that it will consider reviewing this issue.

The prefecture says, "I would like to consider while listening to the voices of the citizens of the prefecture" regarding the specific direction of the review.
