The prize for the 48th edition of the France inter book was awarded to the novel "Mahmoud or the rise of the waters", published by Verdier.

In this work, written in free verse, the hero, an old Syrian poet, tells the story of his country, and the dictatorship, the tortures of Bashar el-Assad's regimes, with a pen imprinted with nostalgia.

The story takes place on the shores of Lake El-Assad, an artificial lake formed by the construction of a dam in the 1960s. “The text greatly touched the readers”, testified the president of the jury Delphine de Vigan.
