, has died this Sunday at the age of 70, as reported by the group on its Twitter account.
"We are heartbroken to hear the news of the passing of our dear friend
Alec John Such
. He was there from the very beginning. As a founding member of
Bon Jovi
,
Alec
was integral in the formation of the band," the group has posted.
Such
was crucial in getting guitarist
Richie Sambora
and drummer
Tico Torres
to join the band in its early days, the band said in a statement.
"To be honest, we found our way through him -- he was a childhood friend of
Tico
's and he brought
Richie
to see us perform.
Alec
was always wild and full of life. Today those special memories bring a smile to everyone 's face."
