Inspired by Dubai, “the city that achieves dreams”, Spanish artist and architect Ines Piedras navigates between architectural forms and various media, transforming materials into models that simulate buildings, as if building an integrated future city in which the engineering language intersects with the visual artistic language, in her exhibition, which It bears the title "Engineering Integration" at Tashkeel Center, which is the culmination of Enes' participation in the "Artistic Residency" program, presented in partnership with the Spanish Cultural Action Organization and the Spanish Embassy in the UAE.

Ines Pedras said about her exhibition to "Emirates Today": "I was inspired by the shapes of buildings in Dubai, many models, it was special for me to tell the artistic story through the geometric shapes flowing in the city, Dubai was for me the city that is associated with dreams, and I heard a lot. - Even before I came to it - the sentence that confirms that it is the city that achieves dreams, and I have worked a lot to complete artworks that translate the saying, with the fewest number of materials.

In her exhibition, which runs until the 21st of this month, at “Tashkeel Dubai”, the Spanish artist combines mathematics and visual art, as she worked on using the experiences she gained from the “art residency” program in the field of embarking on an experiential exploration journey about Arab architecture, as well as exploring the strong historical ties Between the Arab and Spanish cultures.

The exhibition is characterized by diversity in inspiration, as part of the works is inspired by the rocky terrain of the artist’s home in Spain, and another aspect is based on the distinctive sand dunes, skyscrapers and stunning buildings in the UAE.

In her work, Ennis seeks to highlight her engineering aspect, by constructing through her paintings towers, buildings and streets through multimedia. The paintings are a multi-material collage, while the models that make up of one material come as engineering innovations of shapes inspired by the Arab environment.

Through these different geometric shapes, he embodies the essence of the collective unconscious, and how the intuitions are embodied in art through the shapes of buildings.

She also puts, through artistic work, the sum of the knowledge she acquires in her daily life, as well as translating the visual vision she acquires in her daily life. Before joining the art residency program in "Tashkeel", she contributed to international award-winning projects, within specialized architectural teams, Including the renovation of the stadiums for the Japanese Paralympic Games in Tokyo, in 2018.

During her participation in the artistic residency program in Dubai, Ines held dialogues, workshops and guided tours in cooperation with "Tashkeel" throughout last March.

Topics covered at these events included bio-digital architecture and 3D structures.

She also took full advantage of the facilities and equipment provided by the center to create artworks for her exhibition.

Various shapes

Ines said that she was keen that the engineering novel be strong in the artwork, as the geometric shapes dominate, explaining that she begins in her work with the idea and drawings, then translates them through the computer into an engineering design, and then sets the dimensions through which the geometric shape that carries various shapes can be built. .

And about her combination of various materials, she saw that this stems from the diverse cultures that she carries and the different knowledge, which makes her seek to use them in artistic work together, pointing out that the media is her tool for expression. In her childhood she used colors for expression, but her vision developed through time, and thus visual knowledge became more diverse, which was reflected in its language in art.

Regarding the artistic residency programme, she noted that she worked in a special atmosphere, especially as it includes many cultures and nationalities, in addition to the general atmosphere that dominates the Tashkeel Center, which is reflected in the works in general.

Residency Program

Tashkeel Deputy Director, Lisa Pallichgar, expressed the center's happiness at hosting the exhibition "Engineering Integration" by artist Ines Piedras in the center's studios, considering that the Spanish artist produced a wonderful and daring work that is a testament to the success of the residency programme.

She added that the artistic residency program in "Tashkeel" aims to support and sponsor artists, while providing a space of freedom to complete experiments and build experiences, noting that Ennis made good use of her time in absorbing the scenes of architecture and culture in the Emirates, as well as interacting with other artists and art lovers from Through blogs or even workshops you have organized.

Ines Piedras:

"I heard a lot - even before I came to Dubai - confirming that it is the city that achieves dreams, and I worked on the completion of works of art that translate the saying, with the least number of materials."
