Participants in the “Tarjama” event organized by the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, affiliated with the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with the Arab World Institute in Paris, stressed the importance of translation as the main bridge in introducing peoples to other cultures, and informing them about the projects of their thinkers and writers, pointing to the The need to develop a clear plan for translation from Arabic into French and vice versa.

The event, which recently concluded in the French capital, included a set of initiatives to support the intellectual, cultural and social fields, encourage institutions and publishing houses to provide the necessary knowledge support, in addition to qualifying translators from both languages ​​to understand the Arabic and French cultures, and improve the quality of translation.

Within the framework of the event, the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language organized a series of seminars and dialogue sessions, including a session entitled “The Arabic Language in France: Its Uses, Transmission and Spread,” in which the former French Minister of Education and Culture, President of the Arab World Institute Jack Lang, who considers pluralism a first value in Linguistic policies, and he had valuable contributions within the Kalima project through the translation of his book “The Arabic Language is a Treasure of France,” the President of the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, the Secretary General of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, Dr. Ali bin Tamim, and the Acting Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, Saeed Hamdan Al Tunaiji, and Director General of the Arab World Institute, Dr. Mujeeb Al-Zahrani.

While Dr. Ali bin Tamim said: “The organization of this event serves two civilizations that have a rich history of communication, influence and influence, which is manifested in all forms of life, art and science, to the extent that we can safely count hundreds of words circulating in French of Arabic origin, and perhaps the same in Arabic.”

He added: “During the event, we discussed the future of the presence of the Arabic language in France, which is the second spoken language in France, and we studied ways to consolidate its position to become a true expression of the details of the rich civilization that contains its vocabulary. All the peoples and cultures of the earth, and through the recommendations we came up with, we seek to enhance their status and presence as a bridge that defines global civilizations to our Arab and Emirati culture in a broader and more comprehensive way.

For his part, Saeed Hamdan pointed out that the event shed light on many axes, including the experience of the Kalima translation project, which provided Arabic readers with treasures from the World Library in its multiple languages ​​and cultures, and gave the French language a special importance, so he concluded cooperation agreements with a large number of prestigious French publishing houses. It resulted in the translation of more than 1,181 books, considering that “organizing these seminars enhances the frameworks of cooperation that unite the center and the institute, supports the joint cultural movement, and embodies a model for civilized openness and cultural communication.”

Within the “Translation” event, a session entitled: “Paris in Modern Arabic Literature” discussed the status of the capital of light and its presence in modern Arabic literature as a gateway to modernity, with the participation of the Acting Director of the Department of Education and Arabic Language Research at the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, Dr. Khalil Al Sheikh, and Director of the Arabic Language Unit Training and research in Arabic and Hebrew studies at the Sorbonne, Frédéric Lagrange.
