Li Peng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was hired as the president of Zhengzhou University, and Zhang Suojiang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was hired as the president of Henan University.
Public information shows that Li Peng, who was born in Ningdu, Jiangxi in 1965, is a molecular physiologist. Since 2009, he has been the deputy dean of the School of Life Sciences of Tsinghua University. In 2012, he won the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award and was elected to China in December 2015 Academician of the Academy of Sciences, was elected as an academician of the Academy of Sciences for Developing Countries in November 2016.
Zhang Suojiang, who was born in Linzhou, Henan in 1964, is an expert in chemical engineering. In 2010, he was appointed as the director of the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2015, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Henan University is also Zhang Suojiang's undergraduate alma mater.
Zhengzhou University and Henan University are the two national “Double First-Class” (world-class universities, world-class disciplines) construction universities in Henan Province.
"Double first-class" construction is called another national strategy in China's higher education field following "Project 211" and "Project 985".
According to the official website of Zhengzhou University, the school was the first comprehensive university founded by the People’s Republic of China in the early years.
The school will strive to build a high-level research university and a regional national strategic scientific and technological force, and strive to build a world-class university by the middle of this century.
According to the official website of Henan University, the school was founded in 1912 under the name "Henan Preparatory School for Studying in Europe and America", which was one of the three major training bases for studying abroad in China at that time.

Previously, the president of Zhengzhou University was held by Liu Jiongtian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and vice chairman of the Henan Provincial Political Consultative Conference, who is also the party secretary of the school, and the president of Henan University by Song Chunpeng.
